    1964 Chevrolet C-10 Longbed Stepside.

Are the rocker panels welded or bolted on to my 64 Chevrolet C-10. Both sides are rusted out pretty badly and I see where Chevy Duty does sell the rocker panels.

Please tell me if they welded in or bolted and if anyone has had to replace theirs also.

Thanks to everyone for their past advice.

Thank you, I was afraid of that, I am not a welder nor do I have access to a welder.

    Appreciate the help.

    Gary:

The rocker panels are spot welded in several places along the front edges, rear edges and underneath edges where it meets the adjacent panels. The rocker panel can be removed very easily with a spotweld cutter. You can purchase at www.eastwood.com, item #11282, $59.99. It is one of the best investments I have every made on a tool. After the rocker is removed, you grind the mating surface smooth, treat with rust-proofing, as necessary and install new rocker panel. By punching or drilling holes through the new rocker panel in the locations of the factory spot welds, you can then puddle weld the new rocker to the adjacent panel and grind smooth. Find someone with a wire feed welder for the puddle welds. Good luck with your project.

A small Lincoln MIG welder costs around $250.00 and has many uses. Practice on some scrap metal and give it a shot. It pays for itself in the long run.
