Sealed Oil Pan on a 235

Hey guys,

Have you ever ran into a delima were the person didn't really know what they were doing?

I went to drop the oil pan on my 235,and I see globbed/caked on high temp silcon smeared over the pan, and the block were they meet. I guess when this person ran out, there was a 6-8 inch section of JB Weld. x( It took some time, but I got it off.

I found this out the other night, when I replaced the oil pump. I don't know the history on this truck, but I do know that the previous owner didn't know what he was doing!

That kind of falls into the catagory of "Everything on the truck works" and "It ran when I parked it."

With my truck it was "I just changed all the fluids and greased it." Of course I checked everything when I got it home. The rear end was dry, the tranny was about half full, and the grease zerks looked like they hadn't been touched in years.

I've just come to expect these things when buying these old trucks and make my offer based on my assumption that everything the seller is claiming is BS. My worst personal experience was welded in u-joints. Had to cut the driveshaft in half just to remove it. But that's what makes this hobby fun. Everything's an adventure.

I know what you mean, When I was test driving my truck the clutch (hydraulic) messed up and I was stuck. The dude asked me if I was interested before it went south on me? He fixed the problem, I bought the truck, Later that night I took my girlfriend (Later Wife) for a ride and got stuck in traffic when it sat down on me again. She cranked on what had to be the last turn and thats when Janie fell in love with the old truck. I've owned that truck for twenty one years and its become a fixture. I think my daughter has her eye on it, but she is partial to the fifty models so I may be safe.
