I need to ask another (probably stupid) question.

The Boops seat is the style with the cable control routed from the drivers side around the back and along the side of the passenger. The cable allows you to adjust the seat forward and back.

Well, here is the problem, the Boop only weighs 105 (don't tell her I told you) and that is not quiet enough to move the seat forward with ease. The manuel says something about removing the return assist springs before you remove the seat. Well the seat is out and about ready to be put back in and it didn't have any springs on it when I removed it (probably rusted out from the shape it was in.

Anyway, does anyone know the spring lenght and size and where it goes (book does not say) and if possible do you have a picture of spring in case I have to come up with one to work.

    Thanks, TB'sD

    I'm on it!

If no one has the info by tomorrow, I'll go get a photo of mine with size. Another snow day- what else would I have to do? Keep in mind that this will be a GMC spring- prolly better- prolly bigger- ....

    Thanks Zig

    BIG LLLLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL

Yep, it'll probably be bigger and better, but maybe it'll work in a chevy.

Talk about snow day, our little ol county sees snow once every few years, usually doesn't even stick, but the whole place shuts down like it was a dissaster area.

I still have to work, people in ditches everywhere, had about 20 wrecks, 4 upside down, nobody seriously hurt but funny that people don't slow down after they pass a car up side down:eek:

    springs

    Hey TB'sD
If you end up with a problem, you can have my old ones, I will more than likely be changing my seats and will probably toss the old ones.
    Let me know

    Thanks

Let me see what Zig comes up with, I might have something around her in my packrat pile that will work. If not, I'll gladly pay you for the springs and shipping. What a parts resource lots of truck lovers are missing out on.:)

    Thanks, again, TB'sD

Ha boopster, She might be better served just setting the position of the seat then leave it only. At 105 lbs. she would hard pressed to slide the seat any way. Maybe some sort of shock to help it with movement would help ?

You are more than likely VERY correct, but she's a determined little lady, she's got spunk and don't give up easy. After she moves it, and she will, then I'll have to move is back far enough to get my long legs in. then she'll move it back, etc, etc, etc. Then there is the mirror thing, oh the moved mirror. Well, it's her truck, and like I tell her probably too often "you know where a bear sleeps don't ya"

Anywhere in the heck he wants toooooo!

So she can get by with most anything, at least with daddy:D :D :D

    Pictures of spring

I'll bet these will be to big to put here, but we'll see...

Yup. I'll post them in the gallery. Se you there!

By the way TB'sD- My prayers are with you for safe travel in crappy conditions. It looks like the ice is still around.

Hope the pictures help. It was nice to fool around with my truck again!:)

    Great Pics

Your Ok Zig, I don't care what Ken says about you;)

Those pics are perfect, Looks like the spring is not to rigid if i'm thinking correctly. Is there just a small amount of tension on the spring when relaxed? I think that is what I see, just want to make sure. Might have one simular around my junk stuff. If not I know where to get one now:D

    TB'sD

Thanks again, question - are there other pics of you truck posted somewhere? From what I see, your truck looks sharp...:)

Ken just says those things 'cause he knows I'll tell mom!

I don't know if you saw, but I put in a picture of just the spring- not installed. By the tape, it's about 8 1/4" long. You can install them using a pair of needle nose pliers and a fair share of effort. They have to stretch to @ 14"?

The picture that shows it best is the one that is on the passenger side. I don't know if it matters, but besides it being a GMC, that is also the seat out of a 48.

Thanks for the complements! I have several shots in the 47-54 photo gallery. The inside is pretty well halfway done. The rest looks good from a distance and already has replacement parts waiting.

All the paint inside is my "rattle can special". (Delux) (I top coated with clear gloss!:D)

yo, Zig, Mom always liked me best!

Hey little brother, don't go getting cocky now! :D BTW, the pics were great! I'm pretty sure that chevy and gmc had the same set up as far as the seat configuration. According to everything i've read, seen, etc., 50 was the last year to have the cable type adjuster seats. 51 and newer went to the adjuster rod set up.

Now that you've got the "Big Head", design a gas tank cover/speaker housing for Boop! Mom always said you were artistic, or did she say autistic? Hmmmm

    Springs

Blindman, if your offer still stands, let me know how much for the springs and shipping to Gallatin Texas 75764. I send the money to ya. I'd rather do that then try to rig something that may not work right :D

    Let me know

    Ohhhh big brotherrrr...

Now that we're "all grown up", I'll have to show you the letter mom wrote me, way back when, that said, "Dearest son, (that's ME) You will hear me say things about your big brother like,'he's so smart, he's the most handsome, he gets better grades, and 'I love him the most!' I want you to know, I only say these things because he needs this. You have proven to me that your character is strong and I have no doubt that you will do just fine in life. Your big brother on the other hand... let's keep saying our prayers! I want you to know YOU (that's ME) will always be my special little angel!!!" (although there's nothin' little about me- 'cept for my knowledge on ADs:( ) That's where I gotta give you credit Ken, you got me there! ...and your knowledge on chemical compounds and internet sites...and...and...
Okay- that's the only compliment I'll EVER give you!:D

    I'm off the topic aren't I...

    Ken started it!

    Oh yeah

The topic was "return springs"! It seems our threads could use some of those.

But would it be as much fun if we stuck strictly to the topic?

If we were meant to be serious, why would they have given us the choices of all those faces?:D   ;)

    Poor little Ziggy!

You just don't get it, do you? Mom promised to take this to her grave, but i guess i better tell you. Are you sitting down? OK, here goes! YOU WERE ADOPTED! Your biological mom was abducted by aliens in the 50's. They were the spiders from mars. The last time we heard from her was in 1972 when David Bowie came out with his album "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars". She had screwed up eyes and screwed down hairdo like some cat from Japan.

Is it becoming more clear to you now? Do you wonder why you are so gifted in the abstract? I know i probably should have told you this in a PM, but you're a big boy now, so keep a stiff upper lip.

BTW, you're still playing your guitar?

    That's wild!

    Congrats Ken! You nailed it!!!
That nick-name came from exactly that! I had just got to my base in Florida, met a friend who liked playing guitar. We'd get toasted and sit in the stairwell of the VAQ where we lived and play our guitars. We were both bad enough at the time, we needed the accustics of the stairwell to make us "sound better". From that day on I was Ziggy Stardust, Iggy, Ziggy or just plan Zig. Back in the days you could add a "Zag" to that also. Long about '80, I got married and that was about that-

Great job of putting the pieces together! See? Mom's right- you ARE the smart one!

    crap!

I think you are twin sons of different mothers.

I gotta say I enjoy the creative writing in this forum. I'm about as creative as a fence post. I can look at something and tell immediately if it is plumb or level but I don't have a creative bone in my body. My wife has painted every room in the house a different color. If it was up to me every room would be off white and there would be stainless steel sheets up the wall about 4 feet with a concrete floor with a drain in the middle. Every room would have a tap and a water hose so I could wash it down when I spilled my supper. Well, I's wash down what the dog didn't get. Anyway, keep up the entertainment, guys.:D
