hello all Im looking for a decent bench seat to go in my 1966, one that doesnt need to be cut or modified.
>i am wondering if i can get like a 67-72 chevy bench seat >and put it in my 66 thanks for the help Yes, it will fit perfect, but you will need to drill a hole or two. As a matter of fact, you can go with any GM truck bench seat all the way into the 2000 years and they will fit just as well. This includes all the variations of the 60/40 split bench seats. Even the seat glides and floor mounts from the later years fit perfect. I just swapped out a mid 70's 60/40 bench for a mid-90's 60/40. DVal
I wanted to post here, just because I just got done with a seat swap of my own, in my good ol' 1963. Before I got my truck, someone had put bucket seats from a mid '80s Blazer in it (complete with console) and they looked nice. Unfortunately for me, the previous owner swapped those out for something else. When I got the truck, it had the 60/40 bench out of an '88 1-ton extended cab. That seat was nice, pretty comfortable, and fit well. I just didn't like it. Just recently, I put a set of bucket seats out of a 2001 GMC in there. I must say, they are the absolute MOST comfortable seats I've sat in, in a pickup that is. Plus, they're fully adjustable, have lumbar support, and even have integrated seatbelts! Definately a plus when you have to deal with Iowa drivers. If you really want to travel in style, you can get them in leather, some have electric adjustments, and some are even heated! There was an article in a past issue of Classic Trucks that I read, that pointed me in the right direction for seats. According to them, the absolute best fit (if you don't mind modifying your floor a little) are ANY of the seats that came in the '88 on up Chevy trucks. They all fit, they all look nice, and they can almost all be found in bone yards for reasonable prices. Anything short of using a stock bench seat will require a little floor drilling, but in my oppinion, it's worth it to go with newer seats. They're more comfortable, and look a HECK of a lot nicer.
Here is the seat I swapped in. It's from a late 90's Extended Cab Chevy/GMC pickup. Very comfortable with powered lumbar. It fits perfect after some new holes were drilled and old holes sealed. For mounting seats and seatbelts, I strongly recommend an ancor kit sold by Juiliano's ( http://www.julianos.com/ ), that will prevent the bolts from pulling through the floor in the event of a collision. http://home.comcast.net/~dennisvalentine/wsb/media/446492/site1081.jpg
