Well the first Digit identifies the model year. For example 3C153f100110 The number 3 tells you it is a 1963. The second digit tells you the truck type. Conventional Cab. the 15 tells you it is a 3/4 ton. The three tells you it is a chassis cab style. And the F tells you it was made in Flint, MI. The 100110 is the production number of the truck
C was a conventional cab model
    K would be 4x4
    R is a corvair
    Third And Fourth Digit tells you the Series of the truck. 14 or 15 is a 1/2 ton...25 is a 3/4 ton...and 36 is a 1 ton
Fifth digit tells you the body type
    2...is a chassis cowl
    3...is a chassis cab
    4...is a pickup
    5...is a Panel
    6...is the carryall and
    9...is a stake bed
sixth digit tells you the Assembly Plant

Well if the number on the door post is missing your in trouble. That is what everone looks for when you go to sell it. But you can look on the top of the frame on the drivers side between the A-arm and the cab. It will not be stamped very deep so you will have to do allot of scraping to find it. But you will need the cab plate no matter what

The numbers I am refering to are located on the side of the frame rails located approximatly where the doors would be on the drivers side. The number is : 3829593 2 7 14 99.

I know that is not the VIN #...mine is 3C154S151742. I did find a number stamped on top of the frame rail that was the last 7 digits of my VIN...it was S151742. This number is stamped on the frame on at least two places that I have found.

    I am curious what the 3829593 2 7 14 99 number is all about.
