Hi Guys, did an achive search and see that Nate recommends white lithium grease for the shifter box but I notice that the grease I removed was real heavy or corse and sticky if you get my drift. It wasn't old and crusty as expected. I would like to replace it with something of like consistency so it won't seep out of the box and cause a mess. If there isn't something better than the lithium I'll go with that but if someone has a different recommendation I would be interested. Also any tips on rehabing the shift box itself would be appreciated.

Any long fiber typ of grease will do ~

Often you can find Lubriplate gun grease in War Surplus Stores very cheaply ~ it's terrific because it's designed to not attract dust .

Be sure to scrape out 100 % of all the old grease before re lubing it all .

Hi Nate, It's been a while since I needed your help! I took a year off of old trucks in favor of fixing up an old tractor. I will ask local FLAPS for a long fiber grease but I bet they don't know the difference and neither do I!!! If I can't get a good answer I'll just go with the lithium as I have that in a can already. I sure would like to use the heavy duty sticky stuff though. It lasted sixty years and I only need some to go about twenty as that's about as long as I'm going to be around!!!.

    Long Fiber Grease

Any old Lubriplate like # 107 will do the job .

If you have white Lithium grease that's perfect for the job .

Next time you have nothing better to do , begin reading the tiny print on the grease tubes and tubs , it'll say in there short or long fiber .

Wheel bearing grease is short fiber .

Door latch & shift linkage , window lift etc. grease , is long fiber as the slow motion won't sling it off . this is why Gun Grease is so good , it's far superior to plain Lithium Grease although it usually has Lithium in it too .

Thanks Nate. I'm always learning something here. I'm off to FLAPS tomorrow to read the labels.
    Thanks again for the information/
