Just a note for the new guys like me: I did away with the 3-on the tree and put in a Mr.Gasket Daytona floor shiftkit(cheap, and good for now till i go auto)in my '63 Fleet.Went in good after unbolting the center hump. The stick just clears the seat.It was fine for now but not really tall enough for me so i built me a taller one with slightly different bends. Now the bad news: The shiftkit was directly in the way of reattaching the speedometer cable.I looked for a 45 or 90 degree speedometer cable adaptor with no luck.Heres how i got around it.I welded a 3 inch plate to the front of the shiftkit face that the shifter assembly bolts to,drilled an extra hole and moved the shifter assembly 2 inchs forward.I realigned the shift linkage since their angle was considerably steeper. This also moved the shiftstick 2 inchs away from the seat so you can now move the seat all the way forward.(not that i would ever need to do that, being 6 foot) Has anyone else faced this problem, and if so how did you overcome it?Im just wondering if all them years of "Recreational Injestables" has thrown my problem solving ability slightly askew!I think sometimes i take a simple problem and build some kind of Rube Goldberg machine to solve it.Let me know what YOU think.
