I've posted some more pictures. Pogress is slow, but it's coming together. Steering is done, rear end is in, motor is in. In the process of redrilling the rotors to the 4 3/4 bolt pattern & run the brake & fuel lines. I'll probally remove a few leafs from the rear to drop it and put some dropped coils up front. I know so little about some things- (okay, okay, ...A LOT of things...) I thought the axle sets on top of the rear springs, and then if you wanted to lower it, you used blocks. (???)
AhhSo! Morning VS thinking. Not working today. If you replace the stock 3/4 rear axle with an updated axle, why couldn't it be mounted on top like 1/2 tons and change shackles to adjust height? (Like those late 60's Novas that people loved to stick 50s under and jack the butt a mile into the air?) By the way, if you wanted to drop the front of a 3/4 a tad, I assume that you'd take out the two smallest leafs? then what about the pin that fits into the top of the axle?
Here's why, Zig The problem is, you DON'T HAVE SHACKLES ON A 3/4 TON TRUCK, you friggin' Kansan! Cryin' out loud- If you'd go out and look at your trucks back end instead of just the front, you'd see there is a HUGE difference between a 1/2 ton (that frame you must have spent too much time with) and the 3/4 you opted to keep! So~ why don't you leave the ride height alone and be happy with what you have?! Paul
Zig, chill! Dude, lighten up! Go listen to some Kick Butt '70's music! Remember that we've got every imaginable combo here, from 1/2 ton to 1 ton. You can't be expected to know it all (unless you're Nate!) Uncork another box o' red and then go to bed. Things will be much fuzzier in the morning!!
Okay Big Brother~ Actually, I think I will! (listen to tunes, that is...) AnOTHer frig gin thunderstorm is rollin' through here. The distant lightening keeps makin' this 'puter take w-a-y to long to load a page, so look out ears, time to crank some tunes! It IS nice to know that a 1/2 ton axle will work on my 3/4- I'll get over the rear end thing soon. At least I could take out a couple of leafs back there without worrying about safety. I won't be hauling killer loads with my rig.
Hey Mobil, just wondering, what kind of brake buster are you using? I'm going to power brakes on my truck and would like some ideas on what will work. Thanks7
Zig, I don't have leafs up front. It's been converted to a '79 half ton. I've got some dropped coils and I may opt to add some drop spindles as well. Bear, I brought a complete dash mount booster/pedal combo off Ebay. I't's a 7" Corvette style. As far as the rearend goes, to be honest I never paid any attention to the leaf springs being mounted on top of the axel. I just took it to the shop and told them to put in the replacement. By this being a 3600, the leafs are mounted to the side of the frame instead of underneath & I'll drop it by removing the smaller leafs. Since I'll never haul anything significantly heavy I'm not worried about weight capacity.
works for me! Yeah, I was just testin' ya'll on that "lowering blocks/shackles thing"~ heh heh heh... I guess I'll take a couple out on both ends also. I know looks can kill, but my springs up front "look" maaavolious! (as does most of the frame and related parts.) I was going to get lowering springs (not mono) for the front, but if even Nate says you can take a couple out, well, there you go!
