sm420 trans swap

    can i use my original 3 speed tail shaft,from 1948 1/2 ton,on sm420 trans.and what is the fourth gear input output ratiol. thanks

    i want to swap to a t5 trans,on my 48 1/2 ton/go open driveshaft.get 55-62 carrer.need to fabricate the new driveshaft ,the rear ujoint that gos to the rearend i am not shure about .i need to weld the pivet hinge to the original touqetube position.if some one would like to give me a call thanks dan. cell after 5 pm 312 841 2327 thanks

    3 speed and SM420 4 speed both are 1:1 high gear ratio, so if you plan to swap for better highway speed you need to change your plan.

    sm 420 trans

    i understand the 1to1 ratio on 3 4speed are the same in high gear.but i still whant to lose the 3 speed. and whant to know if the oridginal 3 speed tail shaft will work on a sm420 as one option.i have some other options i may askabout t5 trans at nother time. my oun questions are hard for me to understand.thanks

    The three speed side loader tranny is a Saginaw unit and nothing fits the Muncie SM420 .
