Andy asked about perhaps switching to solid mounts to get away from the shackle type rear mounts that have been giving him fits. We have done several S10 frame swaps and pictured are the solid mounts that the AD-engineering kit uses. The steel stands would have to be shorter when used with an AD frame but I like the fact that all the cushions are stock S10 parts so they're easy to find, new or used.

Thanks for the visual Evan!!!:D That's EXACTLY what I had in mind when I said I wanted to fab something up at my buddies steel shop. Now...how exactly does the S10 mount bolt up to the floor of the AD cab? Does it use the stock holes in the floor of the cab? I'm also assuming it is only one bolt instead of two. Never seen an S10 mount in person, so I guess I'll have to have a look see at the local dealer. What's the steel cap on top? Is it a washer of sorts that the floor of the cab rests on? Also, where's the bolt that holds it to the cab? Enlighten me, oh master builder of dream cars.

BTW, don't take our compliments lightly. We've all seen enough at the shows over the years to appreciate a true craftsman when we see one. Even if you don't do the work yourself anymore, you have the talent and know-how to pick the people who do and direct them to produce what your idea of quality is. No small feat, that.

    Respectfully as always,

    Andy

I used aftermarket jeep cj5 style body mounts when I did mine. Cheap and compact.

You hit the nail on the head when you said you probably needed to look at an S10 mount in person. My text descriptions are fuzzy even to me. A few answers to your questions:
1- the cap has a tube that goes partly through the rubber biscuit, does fit up against the rear floor crossmember and probably cups down over the rubber to protect it from oil, heat, and from squishing out.
2- it does use just one bolt and it requires drilling a new hole through the floor pan and cross member.
3- not shown in the pics are a second smaller rubber biscuit that goes on the bottom. This lets the cab be mounted on rubber but still have a large bolt through it to hold in case of severe strain, like an accident.
This explanation is probably as clear as pea soup so here is an exploded view of a flathead ford mount which works on the exact same principle and followed by one shown in a Model A with a sbc. That said, you need to look at one in person and the light will shine.

    S10 mounts

    Hey Evan,

Happened to be near the boneyards today and thought I'd give it a try. Walked into my favorite place and asked for S10 mounts. Counter guy motions for me to follow him and lo and behold, just outside the office is an S10 up on the fork lift that one of the yard rats is pulling the rear springs out of. I didn't even have to crawl on the ground. Guy points to the rear mounts and asks, "Those"? An hour later and $20.00 bucks a piece and I now have new rear cab mounts for my AD. Only thing I need to do is have my buddy at the steel shop fab up some new brackets for me. will keep you all posted and shoot some pics when done. You had posted that the lower, smaller rubber cushion was not shown in your pics. I got the complete mounts, upper and lower rubber with steel cups and bolts. No nuts for the bolts, I guess because they must bolt to the floor in the S10. I would imagine that they should mount just as in the S10, with the lower rubber under the mounting bracket and upper above the mounting bracket. It all looks like it is going to work out perfectly.

Good score, Andy. The S10 does have cage nuts the bolt threads into so you will need to get some metric nuts for them. I like having the head of the bolt up in the cab so it doesn't stick up very far like the bolt through the nut end would, kinda like the front AD cab mount bolts. Even though they run through both the floor and cab cross member I still use a large (3"x3/16) seat belt washer to give it more bearing. You should be on the straight and level before long.
