Hey guys Is it required to make the conection from the fresh air oil bath cleaner cover to the engine valve sidecover when having a connection from the oil filling cap with PCV valve towards the manifold intake ? Are there any benefits making this conection ? I am thinking of if such as this freshair impact can improve better engine oilgas circulation ? Apreceate your advice Martinius.
The PCV on the oil filler cap is a system like Ford used for years and they did have a hose up to the air cleaner to give a clean air supply. In theory if everything is sealed up with gaskets, rings, etc., then vacuum from the intake would pull the seals and gaskets INWARD. You want clean air into the engine, down through the crankcase, up through the lifter chamber and rocker cover, then into the PCV to enter ther intake and burn up any vapors. Many used a filler cap with filter material but since this is you valve location then the air cleaner is about your only clean air source. Be sure the hose picks up filtered air and not air that hasn't been through the filter. I like to check the vacuum with a gauge with the fresh air hose in place and again with it plugged. If there is a large drop then the fresh air hose (or other) needs restricted a little. I have this system on my 37 Buick and get absolutely no oil vapor smell into the passenger compartment. Before it would bring tears to ones eyes.
Thanks for the advice Evan. Evan Thanks for the good tech advice .What i have is the valve cover cap/PCV valve connection to the intake, I mounted a T in the intake as i am going to install the Ampco lubricator aswell wich needs vacume and have planned to install a 90 degr. tube fitting on top of the air cleaner and at a good location to the rocker cover. I want to connect both with a hose or brass tubing. Is this the way to go ? Martinius.
