Every now and then someone restores my faith in mankind, they go that extra mile, they help someone they have never even met, they put themselves out just because they were asked, even though they are thousands of miles away.
The world needs more people like you

    Evan......Thank you, I raise a warm beer to you.:D

Ps. the missus wondered what the hell i was up to under my truck at 1am (friends flight delayed) but i had to see if it would fit;)

Neil, I guess I'm a throwback to when the old car hobbiests had nothing but each other to rely on for parts and supplies. I know the professional vendors have served a definite need but it seems many price their goods at what they think the market will bear rather than helping out with a fair price. Called capitalism I guess but I kinda miss the old days. Sure glad the part fit and I'm sure you know the gear can be changed if your speedometer is way off. We cheated and drank ours cold.

    Evan, you said a mouthful!

Pre-computer, pre-internet, we used to scour the boneyards, write letters to total strangers because we saw an add in Hemmings or Cars and Parts. Swap meets were a social event. You knew who had good parts, you knew who to avoid! Parts cars were plentiful and cheap. If you had $100 in your pocket, you could score a couple of junkers and some awesome NOS parts, still in the original boxes. Oh, for the good old days!

    The good old days

I remember the good old days too, sadly things have changed over here too, wrecking yards don't exist like they used to, health and safety, and the Eco police have forced them to change, now if you go to a yard you stop at the counter at the door and that's as far as you get, you ask for what you want and the guy goes off to find it, so if you want a part he can hammer you for $200 then he will rush off an get it, if you want a clip that holds the loom up under the dash behind the wiper mechanism then you might as well ask for rocking horse s**t! cos you ain't gonna get it, it also depends on wether the guy is having a 'can't be a**d' day!

Shame because in the old days when I was a kid we'd build our cars picking the bones clean at the yards, nowadays it's only the valuable bits get taken off an the rest gets crushed, wasteful to say the least.

As a by product of that anyone who has an older vehicle for spares privately asks big bucks for the silliest bits because they know you can't get them anywhere else, plenty of trucks come over here and go the 350/350 route but guys want $200 and up for an unknown gearbox but they won't sell the speedo drive separately, that's why I'm so grateful for your help Evan, it does hark back to the old days of helping a guy out when he's stuck, not for reward but just to help out.

You guys should try your beer warm sometimes, maybe just maybe you'd like it:D

Evan, if you ever got to see my drivers licence you would notice that speedo accuracy is not exactly high on my list whilst I'm driving :D

The term "swap meet" comes from where people actually swapped parts with each other to keep both projects moving. The Model T and Model A folks were the leaders of this.
