Morning, Has anybody ever modified the stainless door inside window moldings to fit the vent window doors?
mine has original stainless trim in and out and a vent window. i thought that is how they were suppose to be. who knows where the ss came from but it fits fine GT
As I understand it, the inside stainless trim WITH a vent window was a one year only item. At least, that's what I have read in the past. If it is, then you have a rare option. I have seen those very same inside stainless pieces going for mucho buck$ on eBay. Perhaps if I am wrong somebody here can set me straight. Andy
That would be for a 51. To modify, you only have to remove a small strip where thevent is. Pattern from your origional steel frame.
Boy, we have done a bunch of ones going the OTHER way---vent window frames to one piece window. If they bring a tidy sum as Andy stated why don't you just have your painted ones chrome plated and sell the stainless ones to cover the cost and have a little pocket change. You know those fit. IIRC correctly my chrome shop charges 40-50 bucks each.
Thanks for the replies. I like the polished stainless look. I got these of ebay, paid about 100. for all 4 pieces. I got busy last night and notched the stainless ones to match the originals. Looks like that"s all it will take. I have all the stuff to polish stainless so that's going to be cheaper than chrome. the chroming prices have gone through the roof around here. They say it's the nickle, plus these guys around here only do 2 steps, no copper. Plus, if you take it bent, it will come back chromed and bent, no repairs.
Stainless Trims I bought them for my '49 Shop Truck rather cheaply by calling the high dollar Flea-Bay guys and asking about damaged stainless trims , many have terrible scratches from low quality paint work , dents etc. and are considered " not sellable " by the high end vendors , I took them and hand polished to a mirror finish , since my truck is a work truck , no one notices they're not perfect , in fact i get many compliments on having the beautiful window trims all 'round Just a thunk for you po' boys like me .
