i have an '86 chevy 3/4 ton with a motor that is all mickey-moused. the block is from a '77 corvette, the heads are from an '79 olds. the starter went out on me about three weeks ago. i went and got a new starter for the 77 block and i can't seem to get it lined up on the flywheel right. i have tried shimming it, but that doesn't seem to be working. the guy i bought it from three months ago must have broke the bolts off in the block because the holes were drilled out in the block to 7/16" instead of the regular 3/8" starter bolts. i am not sure whether or not the holes were even drilled straight. the starter lines up straight when i tighten up the bolts until i put the final torque on the bolts, then the starter pulls right away from the flywheel. i have been told to heli-coil it, but the biggest ones i could find were 25/64" and the bolts are 7/16". does anybody know of a way to line it up right? i have another motor that i am getting for it, so it only needs to work for a couple of weeks. any advice would be appreciated. thnanks alot case 1986 chevy 3/4 ton
