For 49-3100. Is there a adjustment nut on the starter foot pedal or linkage so the linkage pushes the starter button further in. Any photos or diagrams would be great. Thanks

    Starter Foot Pedal

Nate. I installed a new starter with a new switch. I can push on the starter button on top of the starter and the engine will start ok. When I use the foot pedal the linkage does not depress the button far enough. Since the linkage is non-adjustable (I think) looks like the only fix is to make a longer rod to depress the button more.

    O.K. then ;

First thing is to ensure the linkage is properly attached to the bell housing , four bolts , often gone missing or loose .

Then look at the shaft that holds the starter button ~ it's not supposed to stick out the bottom of the threaded hole , screw it in flush then hold it from turning as you snug up the jamb nut .

The " hinges " can be carefully bent up as a last resort but I'd look very hard at the cab mounting etc. first .

There's a whole lot of " Monky Motion " in this set up but , it worked fine for millions and millions of old 'Bolts and still does in th main so take your time checking every bit of it before making any changes .

Yes , I know it's tight back there (you didn't think I was born with the scarred hands didja ?) but it is do - able....

maybe even take the starter pedal off and just try stepping down on the threaded end sticking up through the floor. If that works, get yourself a new starter peddle and only crank it down far enough so it won't fall off. ?

    Starter Foot Pedal

Nate and Zig. I'll look at the stater pedal/button in the morning. Can I get to the jamb nut from inside the cab thru the floor or is it all from under the truck? And I'm assuming the four bolts that hold the linkage to the bell housing are in back of the motor in a hard to get to area. Any tricks to get at them?
    Thanks Doug

Hey Doug~ Check my thread "The Only Way Is Up". Post # 29. It shows how this is hooked up.
    Hope this helps.

    One Last Thought :

As I was drifting off to sleep , I remembered that many folks think that calling it a ' stomp starter ' means they'll depress the starter button as hard as possible so the tap proper , gets bent a bit over the 50 years of operation....

Part of why so many folks doors rattle like morracas and are hard to close whereas mine just close with nice clicks ~ after I rebuild & adjust them , I never slam the beejeebers out of them and anyone who does so , walks home .

Good luck and keep us posted .

    Starter problem

Nate I think I fixed the problem. I put a new(rebuilt)starter with a new switch on. Still the starter would not work when I depressed the foot pedal. I could push the button on the starter switch and the starter would work. I checked the four bolts holding the linkage on top of the clutch housing and they were tight. The starter foot pedal shaft did not protrude out from the linkage stub and the lock nut was tight. I checked that when the starter foot pedal was depressed, the linkage was not hitting the top of the clutch housing. I made a new longer(3/8") link to the top of the starter and the trucks starts good. Thanks for your info.
