    Hello All -

I have a '51 3/4 ton that has a 216 from a '49 passenger car. When I purchased the truck, the foot starter pushbutton on the floorboard had been removed and the truck started with simply a turn of the key. I have purchased and new foot starter pushbutton and linkage (seems like pushing that button is half the fun of starting!) and I know I need to buy a new (rebuilt) starter that will have the lever that will attach to said linkage. The current starter has just the plunger solenoid and won't attach.

My question is this: I am assuming that a foot actuated starter motor will work just fine on this engine, even if it didn't have one before? (I assume the 1949 cars were started with a key). I am banking on the fact that there was so much interchangeability back in those days. I'd hate to shell out the $$ for a starter and then discover that it wont work on this engine.

Thanks a bunch, I appreciate all your good info -

The foot stomp starter will work as long as it has the same amount of teeth on the starter drive as the one you are replacing.

Great, thanks DeadZone, looks like 9 teeth is the lucky number -
