I have a 1960 Chevrolet C10 pickup Fleetside, and need a little bit of help. Also I have a grill that has the single headlights, and chrome oval bezels, The only kind of 1960 c10 I see around is the one with the dual headlights, were there two models made in 1960? I need to know where i can get my steering column rebuilt. Also, I have plenty of rust inside the cab, a tiny bit on the floor panels, and some on the rocker panels. But I do have some on the Door Post, also would you recomend sandblasting the inside of the cab, tons of surface rust. And last but not least, where can I get the seat support brackets, I've looked everywhere!
Wow, first off welcome!! The grill you have must be a swap in from later years. It sounds like a 62, that's the year they went to singles and had the big cover plate as a bezel. As for rebuilding the column; what is wrong with it? I suspect a local garage specializing in steering could do it for you. However a lot of the work isn't too difficult, just takes a bit of time. I understand your problem with rust; I just replaced my whole cab due to bad rust-outs. What I've found is if you see bubbly rust, it has probably gone all the way through the metal and must have the panel replaced. Surface rust will indeed be removed nicely by sandblasting; I plan to do that myself pretty soon. Also the blasting will quickly reveal the areas that must be replaced due to rust-through. My guess is that the rockers are probably toast, very common problem. Are the seat mount brackets the kind of item you can find used in a wrecking yard? I'm not totally sure what you're talking about here, are they a reinforcement on the cab itself or part of the seat? Hope some of this helps!
RE: Steering Column Related stuff i have a three on the tree collum ... and i also would like to have a chrome 1962 grille which sounds like that is what u have. maybe we could swap?? i also have quite a few other parts for 60-63 trucks cause i parted one out recently. where are u from? i'm from indiana. i hope u get this soon. it's probably best to rely to my e-mail. antoniopasillo@hotmail.com thanks tony
RE: Steering Column and stuff Like what has been said before, sounds like a previous owner swapped out your grill for a later model. What is currently wrong with your Column? Bearings and switches are available and not to difficult to replace. Pick up a service manual, it's not that daunting a task. If you have the cab pulled apart for painting, you might as well blast the interior. It would be a pain to try to hand sand everything if it's as prevelent as you say. Seat supports? Mine ('65) just bolts directly to the floor, no extra brackets. If the '60 is different, you might just start calling wrecking yards. You might also check out J*im C*arters for used parts, I've been successfull in finding a few things through them. good luck jeffrey
