Steering column & horn.

I installed a 69 Chevy auto. steering column in my 61 Chevy. There is not a single wire that goes to the horn, but a semi circle of 7 or 8 wires that go down. I assume one of them is the horn wire. I also retained the 61 steering wheel and can't remember what order the thin brass circle, the nylon bushing that holds the 3 screws, the cup thats holds the rubber and horn button and the washer go in. Also how can you tell if the original 61 horn is good or bad?

The horn wire is probably black which is the color of ground wires. I believe virtually all horns work by grounding the wire in the column. phantom

howziit Henry!

to test the horn, if it's not mounted, lay its body onto the (-) of the battery, and momentarily touch the lead wire to the (+) of battery.

if it honks, it's good.

if it doesn't, it's not good.:-(

unsure of your truck or '61 chevy, but black is usually the horn wire. it MAY lead to supply ground to activate a horn relay, which also has constant 12vdc...AND the green(?) wire, which will supply power to the horn.
