Does anyone know the steps to disassemble the steering column? I have to replace the turn signal lever to run the cruise control wire down thru the column.
I need to remove the collar to get access to the horn assembly. I have already removed the steering wheel. Do I need to remove the key assembly?
    Thanks!

Perty sure You have to remove the collar BEFORE You can get to the Ignition switch inside . But Not Knowing for sure what year Your working on & a tilt column is a little Trickier but can be done , other then the Forum You put the Question in, Sorry I,m New here & Its been awhile since I,ve tore into one.

But They make a Special tool that Screws on to the shaft Where the Steering nut goes. That when tightened it pushes the collar down to allow You to Remove the Spring clip. giving acsess to the turn signal switch.

I Have , before I bought the tool, Just used a big washer under the steering wheel nut & stuck a couple of 1/2 inch Drive sockets under the Washer , Slowly tighten the nut & the collar will push down. Then Using a Couple of Small Screw drivers Or pick tools Spread & remove the Spring clip. Carefull not to loose it though, pops off Perty quick . Its a little Tricky Snaking down the new cruise wire, but can be done. Another set of hands might not hurt either.

Reverse order when reinstalling. Hope that helps a little . Best of luck. Bob

Thanks Cowboy. I did a google search and came up with a plan similar to your reply. They showed a diagram how to do remove the plate that you see after removing the steering wheel. It is a u shaped tool to remove the retainer. That will get me to the next step. I wanted to replace the turn signal, cruise control, wiper all in one lever.
The truck is a 1987 Silverado. I have several pictures in the picture gallery.
    Thanks for your help!!!
