    Hi Everyone..

Come Spring I plan to work on my stock 1960 Chevy Stepside bed. I plan on replacing the wood with the original pine and new rails.

    My questions:
    1. Were the stock truck beds pine or Oak?
    2. Were they painted black -or- the color of the truck -or- poly??
    3. What about the underside of the bed.. was the wood protected?

Thanks in advance for any information
    Regards, Russ

As far as my knowledge goes, your stock '60 would have had yellow pine as this is what chevy used through all its years for bed wood type. The top of the wood would have been painted with about three coats of flat black paint. The undersides had some type of grey enamel to better protect against undercarriage road rash. I ahvent researched to much in the 60-66 era bedwood but this holds to the facts with the advanced design era. Hope this helps if you are still pondering.~Ryan
