I have a 62 car motor in a 48 chevy with a stomp starter (flloor pedal).

How do i know if is the original starter from the 216?
Previous owner is not available for info.

There easiest way to tell is if a 6v battery turns it over then it's probably the 48 set up. A 12v battery will make a 6v starter act like it's on steroids and without harm if the engine is in decent tune. A 6v battery won't turn a 12v starter over.

    thanks Evan

I replaced the dpo 4 ga battery cables with O cables. I also had the starter checked out by a local shop. The starter was complete toast. We saved the bendix and the starter housing.

I reinstalled the starter today. Strong, fast and cranks like it is on a mission from GM.

    Thanks Evan

    Howdy Ziggy

I read the forum when I have time.

I enjoy the GMC banter among the group.

Nice to realize hom popular the AD forum has become as iit matures.

I still enjoy my 54. I got a big grin when i saw the chartruese 54 coming together on theforum. Nice paint, but not green. My 54 is green.

    Enjoy

    And I might add...

...a mighty fine 54 at that! I *really* like it when you have the boat hooked up to it!
BTW, Jim~ Ya notice how many GMC people we are getting nowadays??? :D I am LOVING it!!!
FWIW, I got the driver's side fender all primed and ready to go today! Pretty high heat, but l-o-w humidity!
