LAST EDITED ON Aug-28-01 AT 04:31 PM (CST)[p]I bought a glovebox lock and key for my 1955 2nd series and with it I also bought the glovebox retainer bracket? (screws onto the back of the mechanism) Anyways, i recently opened up the box it was in and i looked at the retainer bracket and it was covered in this white dry crust... But that and the screw were the only parts affected. Yes, it has been out of the original box, but it has never been outside or in any moist places! If I buy another one is this gonna happen again - has it happened to anyone else?

    See you all later!

Yes , this is quite common with the old pot metal parts . I occasionally find the same white covering on bright plated tin parts as well . just clean it off and you'll be O.K.
