I have a 61 pickup that has the original 235. Although before this summer it has not run in many years, I have put on 600 miles with a pretty smooth running engine. Suddenly, after I had to stop short for a light, I noticed that the engine was shimmying and my horsepower had dropped considerably. Does anyone have any ideas on what I should be checking?
If the truck has been sitting for long tome as you say, there may possibly be some rust in the fuel tank from condensation .Sounds like some of this has broken loose and possibly stopped up your fuel filter or carb. Hope this helps. J.Corbett
After replacing my non-working fuel guage, and working inside the fuel tank, I too found that rust had been the cause of the exact same thing. During a thorough rebuild of the quadrajunk, it was grossly obvious what had happened. I installed a see-through fuel filter between the fuel line and the fuel pump as well as replacing the internal one in the carb. - Magoo
