does anyone know the inner diameter of the stock coil springs? also what is the free length and compressed length? anyone know the spring rates for a v8 truck front and rear? preferably a shortbed fleetside as thats what i have.

reason im asking is im thinking of making my own coilover kit for my truck. i can buy the threaded adjusters that have a 5.5in inner diameter for $30 a pair from a circle track magazine new, then the circle track springs are available in just about any length and spring rate you could want and are very cheap. this way i can adjust the ride height perfect at each corner and if i ever need to carry something heavy in the back i can jack it up and adjust the perches to lift the back to keep it from bottoming out .

Give the folks at Early Classic a call on their 800 number. http://www.earlyclassic.com

I've never met anyone who knows more about the suspensions of our trucks.

I have seen a coil-over kit for the rear of our trucks. It's been a while, and I can't remember "who" the vendor was.

You might consider an Air Ride Technologies kit (front and rear) as well.

ill call and ask them. i dont wantto go airbags as im a set it and forget it kind of person. i know i could make the 5.5in springs work with those collars but am wondering if i can do it without any welding. if i have to weld the perches in place and weld in an upper mount i will. but still leaves me needing to know what springs to go with.
