    Taken the Saginaw 4 speed apart again and needing some advice !

    Well i had to take it apart again to look inside what whas wrong ? The old mechanic and me are srcetching our forehead , we dont understand anything yet. The synchros and the gears are looking very good. New bearings and tightnings looks good. The pilot bushing is new and the yoke splines are giving good support inside the clutch. The frontyoke end i have messuared and has the right dia and does not show any wear o.k. The distance between the bearing underneath the collar towards the distantance where the needlebearings are located inside is a kind a short. Means the weight is not to big on that particulair partside.
    The frontyoke with splines that goes right into the clutch is a bit to loose inside the tranny after my taste ? The 3 speed Saginaw its frontyoke feels moore tight and stable and i wonder if the reason of unstabillety lies here ? The location where the needlebearings are located makes it loose but how much movement is normal there? What size needle bearings are commen here to use ? Does the trembling noice in my trannys cover upper left side comes from this when i drive the truck in 2.3.4 th. gear ? Give me som advice to solve this problem please.

    :confused: Martinius.

    Fwiw ;

    I was once rebuilding the Muncie in my old '46 3100 and the Federal Mogul bag or input shaft needle bearings , were wrong ~ they were visibly too skinny , the counter guy insisted everything was fine , I insisted he go back and bring up all the packages and Lo ! only the one he'd given me , had been incorrectly filled at the factory .

    Not much play is permissible here , the usual fault will be poor synchro operation .

    Good day Tom !

    Talked to my old pensioned cool friend Åge today and he came up with some good news. His assumption is that one of the needles/bearingrollers must have dropped outside the range of the others. I have swapped out with new onces and Åge mentioned its more tighten now as before!! There is a good a reason to be happy right!

    Soon i am back on the road again to test my beloved truck yippy cahoooooo:D:D

    I think we solved the tranny problem ? Thank you all !

    :DThank you for all your contribution solving my tranny problem ! It helped to get focused on some spesific issues.

    One of the main support washer that supports the rear yoke had been put in the wrong place. And most probebly one of the bearing needle/rollers to whas out of its position ? It feels a bit moore tighten now and i am glad nothing is missing or damaged. The gears have no sign of any wear and nothing inside elsewhere have seem to have any damage of a kind. I am looking foreward to get the tranny in my truck again after i come back to Norway frome my trip to the USA. Need to make a test drive first of all to get an new impression and experience.

    Hope there is a possebillety to make a visit in your beautifull country and meet some good and polite people ! I wanna thank you all and best wishes fore this coming summer.

    Maybe seeing you in the US of ....... A
