This is the story of two pricey parts and how the companies responded when a problem arose. The first is of a Heidt's independent rear suspension which is the deluxe version and runs about 8 grand. The hub bearings were either defective or improperly installed so they seized and galled the spindles. They are sealed bearings so lubrication is not a factor. The car has been driven 3800 miles but their response was, "we will sell you new spindles for $240 each", the same as a walk in customer. They just build them and forget about any warranty other than a 60 day policy. The second is of an Ididit column shift tilt column. The steering shaft was contacting the shifter tube and moving the shifter through different ranges which could have been bad at any higher speeds. Their response was to send it to them and if there was an assembly or component error there would be no charge, they would pay shipping both ways, and since it's a painted column if it got scratched removing or installing or in shipping then send them a bill for repainting. Got it back today, no charge, and there was a check for the shipping charge to send it to them. Guess who does and doesn't get anymore of our business.
