TH350 No Engine Braking

It's my Son's 4X4, an odd 197? K5 thing .

454, TH350, ratchet shifter, no matter what gear it's in there's zero engine braking ~ let off the throttle and the engine drops to idle ~ unsafe in a 4X4, worse because my son is fearless and goes down far too steep hills and canyons .

This tranny is freshly rebuilt and supposedly came with a brandy new torque converter .

What to look for ? .

Looks like it may have to do with the valvebody and how it was rebuilt:
Do TH350/400's have engine braking?

Sounds like you'd need to talk to whoever rebuilt the trans.

I'm sure the dufus who rebuilt the tranny didn't set it up for engine braking, I hope my son will take it back as I view it is unsafe, especially in a 4X4 .

I give all this info to my son who sidesteps and asks : can a TH350 be push started ? .
