i have been having trouble sence i put on a carter w1 with the truck idle down.. the linkage sticks part open making a fast idle.. stomp and realease the throttle and it goes down to the stop and is fine (although embarssing). I assumed it was a worn throttle shaft in carb.. so rebuilt a different carb to replace it. well when changing the carbs. i discovered it is not the carb.. actually seems to be at bottom of linkage travel.. looking at a rochetor b carb next to the w1 the closed position of throttle valve is about 1/4" higher than the w1, from the bottom flange... so are there diferent bakeolite spacer thicknesses? if i could move carb up even1/8" i think the problem would go away.. or i could put two gasket on. could bend the vertical throttle rod.. but dont realy want to do that.. anyone run across this?
Adjusting the rods might help! Are you shore you have the right lenght idling rods installed to the carb? If so is it posseble to adjust it a bit so it gets shorter ? Do not bend anything it will make it even worser. 2 gaskets migt possable help a bit but i would advice you not to use 2 bakeolite spacers. Yes the 216 and the 235 have different thickness bakeolite spacers , not much but there is a difference ! Hope this is of some help.
I had to fabricate my linkage rod from scratch. I picked up a length of 3/16" round aluminum rod at the FLAPS and once I had what I wanted I made a duplicate out of steel rod.
