Our truck has the throttle knob and cable in place but it is not hooked up to the carb. I cant see where it would hook to. The truck is as old as I am and it has probably forgot it to. . My son went through a set of spark plugs in 500 miles keeping it choked to much. If I can get the throttle to work it will help him out.
There should be a little sheet metal bracket that holds the end of the throttle cable vertically , the center portion goes through the end of the throttle lifting rod , you prolly have a cotter pin there now . Then there's a cable clamp that simply sides on the end of the wire and has a set screw in it.. Some once posted pix of this , then it's simple to see what you need , on my '49 I was missing the entire bracket with clamps , I bought a $5.00 Flea-Bay carby for the clamp and happily received a dry mesh original air fitler with it ,the spare carby core was a plus .
Thanks Nate I knew you would know what to do. I will try the same. A throttle will really help a boy when he is learning to drive!
Warning ! Danger danger ! I sure hope you're kidding ! The hand throttle is for warmup and keeping the truck runing in the rain / snow with all lights & heater going , ONLY unless you have a death wish ! . DO NOT ever use it as a cruise control nor to prevent a student from repeated stalling.... -Nate
Thanks Chiro. I think my cousin has one and will give it to me. I found a GMC manual that shows a different bracket, simple enought to make by hand. The one in your picture is much nicer
Another Picture Seems as though you got all the info you need, but if pictures also help, I included one of my pre-rebuild truck when it was all hooked up. The pictures blows up big if you click it twice. https://talk.classicparts.com/photo...=&ppuser=5676&sortby=f&sorttime=9999&way=desc
Driving With ' Three Feet ' This is precisely why you need to keep on top of your brake adjustments , so he can learn to " Heel & Toe " it ~ don't worry about repeatedly stalling the truck , it's all part of learning how to really drive , apparently becoming a lost art judging by the furor I created over on my Metropolitan Nash tech site by suggesting folks downshift and use compression braking.... Your boy will not be able to hurt the truck by lurching off or to a stop and this feedback will teach him how to drive faster and better too As VW said in 1963 when asked why they only sold stick shafts : ' once you learn how to properly operate a clutch , it becomes automatic ' -Nate
