Anyone know of a source for the king pin thrust bearings for a 49-54 front end. I bought a king pin set from Classic parts here and it has one bad bearing. Our host was no help other than to recommend I buy a new kit!. I called and talked to the manufacturer of the kit - Thayer bearing Co and their product manager Kevin was helpful but stated they had no reports of bad bearings and in that they only sell the kits wholesale to other suppliers he was unable to offer any help other than stating he would sample some of the kits for like problems and let me know what he finds. - no response to date. He was reluctant to tell me who else they wholesale to. Anyway, anyone know where I can get a single thrust bearing for my king pin set?

    Have you tried...

Kaman Bearing? It looks like they have outlets throughout the US. If you bring it in, they might be able to help you find what you need.

The old ones are to far gone to re use ? .

Kevin won't send you one lousy part out as a good faith gesture ? .

You cannot stop payment on the credit card for the defective part ? this isn't the Customer Service I usually get from Chevy Duty , they've always bent over backwards for me...

    Customer Support

Nope, Kevin never offered any solution at all. I bought the kit in Sept so it's too late to stop payment. All Chevy Duty/Classic parts did was him-haw around and talk about the supplier being US made. So much for quality!!! and Thayer is supposed to be ISO cerified and the customer service feedback system doesn't seem to work. I tried to get a message to them via email and it bounced three times so I called them direct. If I knew who ther certification organization was I would register a complaint with them.
I have one of the old ones and was considering reusing it but wasn't sure that was a good idea but it's looking more and more like that's what I"ll have to do as I've been all over the internet and can't find one.:(

    Well That Sux

And folks aways ask me why the shop is chock full of good used and old stock bits of this n' that.....

When you work on the same stuff all the time , left over bits always come in handy sooner or later .

I wonder if you took the bad shim 'round to every alignment & frame shop near you (any " Bear " shops nearby ?) they might have something you could use....

The GM number is 373476 group 6210.
Back in the day they did not sell very well, so many were not stocked.

However I checked on the internet and southsideautomotive says they have 2 you will have to contact them to make sure and how much.

I hope this helps sorry to hear about classic parts disposition.

Help at last! I'm saved once again by the forum

:)Shankamoto, thanks I'll check it out. my google didn't help me before so thanks for the link. If they have them I'll purchase them!!!

Nate. Thanks.... as a last resort I too would have used the old bearing. No Bear shops around here just the franchise stuff like tire kingdom and a few independants that only work on newer stuff.
