How do you go about searching the history of my truck? Where do I start? I got it from my uncle, who got it from my other uncle, who had a buyer find it at an auction in Orlando. It had spent some time at a naval base and was painted naval blue. He said he thought it had come from Arizona and montana before that. I would also like to search on the 53 I am restoring. I know who we bought it from, and that he bought it at Charlotte auto fair 7 years ago. I have the bil of sale from that transaction, with an auto seller in N.C. Where to now?
O.k. SOME states will allow you to search records by VIN but you have to know the special allowed reason as too many people used this info to create duplicate tiles and steal vehicles . Ca. , I've forgotton what the <magic> prase is , they also charge you per year searched , so for example , I own William Shatner's old BMW , if I want a readout of the title with his name on it , I must pay to search the year it was originally sold , or if I didn't know when he owned it , I'd have to pay for each year back to it's manufacturere date . I'm sure there's an insurance co. dodge around this but damned if they'll share the info . Good luck ! .
Remember Too : That the vast majority of these old trucks were originally titled by thier _engine_ serial number , NOT the VIN on the doorpost tag so unless you have a 216 with the date code matching your trucks model year , this *might* (not will) be a fruitless search but if you do it sucessfully , imagine the satisfaction quotient .
