Im thought about getting a ZZ4(350)crate motor from GM and was told that was too much torque (326 ft pds. atleast)for a 4 wheel drive...what kind of torque range should I look at ? And and whats a good setup....I was looking at the ZZ4 with the built 700r tranny..
well i have a 454 in my 62 chevy 4x4 3/4 ton dually so i don't know who told you that that engine has to much tourqe. your going to want all the bottom end you can get. well at least in my opinion. cowboy
well he said that meaning the transfer case and front diff. wouldn't handle it...A guy on ebay has the zz4 for sale..so I sent the same question and his response is like yours...he thought as long as my running gear was fine I should be alright...I have ( guessing ) a 373 posi.
Your front differential should handle that just fine. Its the u-joints and axle shafts you need to be more careful of. Just dont beat on it too hard offroading and it'll be fine.
If thats what u what buddy, go for it. But i'll tell u what, i bought the stock 260hp gm crate 350 my selfself, i put edelbrock 600 carb-eps edelb intake-headers-msd ign. And im very happy with it. Lots of power comin out of that stock motor. good luck.
