Hello Mr. Valintine. Question For Ya, I Have The Th350 With Crappy Dipsticks That Are Garenteed To Leak At The Oring On The Base As It Goes In The Tranny. I Know Your Running A 700r, But What Is Your Advise On Good Dipsticks That Dont Leak? I Was Looking At The Lokar Flexible Dipsticks. Do You Think They Would Work Good, And Do You Think The Firewall Mount Would Work Better Then The Block Mount Since The Blocks So Close To The Firewall Which Will Make It Hard To Fill And Check? I Need D's Advice Of The Day ;)
Thanks Dennis, Looking Forward To Meeting You In Vancouver.

I used the Lokar, but here is the bad news...

I had to use Two to get it to work. The firewall mount is too short. The header mount,, too goofy. ( didn't want anything unnecessary hanging off the motor, plus, that dipstick mount gets REALLY hot making checking the fluid when the truck has been on the road a while really interesting.)

SO,, I used the dipstick & tube from the header mount and took the firewall mounting bracket and swapped it onto that dipstick. ( sold the remnants at a swap meet )
That arrangement puts the dipstick just inside the heater box towards the center of the firewall. If you have an aftermarket a/c that removes the heater box, then you may not want that arrangement as it will stick up too far and look,,,,,, GOOFY once again ! ;)

THANK YOU THATS AN EXELLENT IDEA. IM USING THE STOCK HEATER BOX WITH NO AC SO THAT WOULD BE A PERFECT PLACE TO MOUNT IT. 2 MORE QUESTIONS, IS THE FIREWALL MOUNT BRACKET LOOK LIKE IT WOULD BE EASY TO FABRICATE? THAT WAY MAYBE I COULD JUST BUY THE HEADER MOUNT DIPSTICK AND MAKE MY OWN BRACKET AND POWDER COAT IT. AND, WHAT HOLDS THE DIPSTICK INTO THE TRANNY AND KEEPS IT FROM POPPING OUT? BACK ABOUT 10 YEARS AGO A FRIEND AND I BUILT A 67 FIREBIRD WITH THE TH400, THE DIP STICK LEFT US STRANDED A FEW TIMES, ITS AMAZING HOW TRANNYS WONT SHIFT WITH OUT FLUID. ANYWAY I LOVE INOVATIONS WERE YOU MODIFIY THINGS TO YOUR PERSONAL NEEDS SO I THANK YOU AGAIN FOR INFO, IT WOULDNT BE MUCH FUN JUST TO BOLT EVERYTHING IN WITH OUT GETTING TO MODIFY FIRST :p

    THANKS D

I got my 700R4 dipstick from Mad Dog Lou. It's just a standard dipstick. It was real hard to get it in though but it dosn't leak at all. Also it cost a hell of a lot less than a Lokar. http://maddogtransmissions.com/

You "could" use the bracket that comes with the Lokar, I just didn't like the way it "looked".

The dipstick is a press-in affair. The 700/r4 has a rim that the O-ring slips into inside the hole at the trans. Not sure about the other trans..

I installed mine before the engine/tranny went in so it was an easy deal. Never leaked so that's good !

I made the mistake of installing the tranny first and dipstick last. It made it hell to get it in.
