QUICK QUESTION, ON MY 66 FLEETSIDE, IM WONDERING WHAT MY ORIGANAL MANUAL TRANNY IS? CAN ANYONE LET ME KNOW? THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME. 66 KUSTOM
Jeff, Thow us a bone will ya !! Three speed or 4 speed ?? A lot of these trucks came with the SM420 4 speed. Commomly called a "Granny" 4 speed. It's a top loader with a compound low 1st gear that is useful for creeping up the sides of buildings. The other is a column shifted 3 speed that was standard equipment on the C10 and C20's. DV
Another good transmission from the 60s was the automatic 2speed powerglide transmissions, very hard to find anymore.
OK OK, SORRY ABOUT THAT, ONLY A FOURTH OF MY BRAIN WAS WORKING WHEN I POSTED THE QUESTION. :7 YES ITS A FOUR SPEED AND YOUR ANSWER SOUNDS THE SAME AS I WAS THINKING, IT DEFFINETLY WAS A LOW GEARED GRANNY. THANKS FOR YOUR GUYS RESPONSE. NOW I JUST HAVE TO FIGURE WHAT I WANT TO DO WITH IT SINCE IT JUST SITS ON THE FLOOR. 66 KUSTOM
" NOW I JUST HAVE TO FIGURE WHAT I WANT TO DO WITH IT SINCE IT JUST SITS ON THE FLOOR." A lot of offroad Jeep folks love that trans. Try your luck at a swap meet. DVal
GOOD IDEA, ACTUALLY THERES A SWAP IN A NEAR BY TOWN THIS WEEKEND THAT I MIGHT TRY MY LUCK AT, AND THERES ALOT MORE OFFROAD GUYS IN THAT TOWN THEN THERE ARE HOT RODDERS, THANKS DENNIS. 66 KUSTOM
Here's another idea. Rather than lug that 700 lb gorilla around to a swap meet, make a cardboard "For Sale" sign and hang it around your neck while walking around the meet. DV
WELL DENNIS I TRYED THE CARDBOARD TRICK, AND EVERONE KEPT THROWING THERE CHANGE AT ME. JUST KIDDING, THAT IS A BETTER IDEA THEN PULLING IT AROUND IN THE RADIO FLYER THOUGH. 66 KUSTOM
