I was under my 47 last week and I noticed one of the top bolt flanges (I guess thats what there called) that bolts the trans to the bellhousing is cracked away from the trans. I dont know when it happend everything went together fine. Should I worry about it I meen I still have the 3 others I know it should have 4 because they made it that way for a reason but is it that big of a deal

    What Tranny ?

3 speed side loader or romping stomping SM420 Muncie ? .

In either case I'd say it's time to find a spare used tranny with the _same_ casting # on the side and build one nice one out of the two , throw in all new bearings and synchro rings too...

I've operated 'em like this for long periods but then one buddy of mine ripped his clean off when he loaded the bed full of branches & leaves, it didn't look like a heavy load and he swore he didn't snap the clutch but he ruined the truck anyway.....

Once it comes loose it begins to spin pretty qick and bends up the frame and everything close to it gets bent into junk in about 35 seconds....

Friend of mine siezed a diff in a fuel altered and it sheared all the bell housing bolts an spun the lenco trans, made a hell of a mess of one of his legs, dont take a chance an swap the trans out, not worth the damage it will do if it goes wrong!

    Hey Nate,

Don't you mean 3.5 (3 POINT five) seconds? It would seem that even at idle and 500 RPM, it wouldn't take 35 seconds to do the damage. Prolly 3.5 seconds.
