    51 chev 1/2 ton 4 spd.

I was getting excessive trans gear oil leaking onto t/o brg and out onto under pan.

My question is : does the hole in the retainer go up or as I found it down?

The parts and service books pictures show the hole up, but you can't always count on that.

It's always been facing _down_ on everything I worked on , never any leakages unoless the paper gasket is bad or if the case has tiny cracks in it...

Oil from the engine breather will wet the clutch if you leave the flywheel scatter pan off .

    Good Deal !

Clean the surface area well and check for leaks & tiny cracks around the bolt holes .

Remember that if there's gear oil on the clutch , this usually means tranny was filled improperly .
