transfer case swap

has anyone tried to use one of the newer transfer cases out of 96-99 Chevy (electronic push button) on a older (85) truck. I dont know much about transfer cases and 4x4 systems but I know that these transfer cases are used on trucks with independant 4x4 front ends hopefully it wont matter.

The newer IFS trucks (88 up) have the front driveshaft on the drivers side. The older (87 down) have it on the passengers side, therefore making it not a good swap.

Dont do it... Push-button 4wd drive t-cases utilize electric solenoids to shift the vehicle from 2wd to 4hi or 4lo, etc..., which can be unreliable...especially in hard-use conditions.
Your best bet.. the NP205 used in older chevys, they're tougher than any of the crap made today and easier and less expensive to repair as well. Keep in mind, the equipment that the factory installs is deemed suitable for "normal" use, and let's face it...how many of use put our trucks through normal use?
