There were some questions about "transfer cases" posted under the "Leaf Springs" thread, but I thought it might be better if a new thread was started about this subject.

Questions: I see you guys have been talking about the transfer case on your truck I have been trying to figure out what mine is, it has what look like more than one place to put rear dive shaft anyone ever see this???? and can someone tell me what model and brand it is.

Answers (to the best of my knowledge): The 60 to 66 trucks used what is commomly referred to as a "divorced transfer case", located in the center of the truck. Modeled after the NAPCO design. The TCs were made by Timken-Rockwell, model T-221.
On some of these cases (left side just above the fill plug) the model number, ratio, and production date is stamped into a machined surface. The TC in my truck just has the rough casting... dang! The reduction ratio in low range is 1 : 94 to 1.

The large cone to the right of the rear drive shaft is a bearing cap. There is a smaller cap on the front of the TC. There was a shaft type power take-off unit available for these TCs and if anybody has got one that they don't need let me know! Or if you have one in your truck I'd be interested in see some pictures.
    Hope this helps,

[updated:LAST EDITED ON Nov-14-01 AT 11:11 AM (CST)]I wish I could help out!! But I have a NP205 in mine.... But I did have a problem this weekend! the spline sleeve(?) that transfers the tranny's output to the NP205 input! ... Does this sleeve come in two different lengths... at least I believe this to be true.... a grinding noise came from under the truck ..... sounded like the gears not messing together... (Yes I was stranded, 50' from the drive way) I got home pulled the TC and found the sleeve up against the tranny and the other end (of the sleeve)had chewed up splines... Not bad though.... I made a spacer (about .5" ) and re-installed everything and it's running fine now..... after all that.... does anyone know about this sleeve length and how long it can be or should be? I would like to find the right size and someday install it.....
