I have the plate off the floor board, have just put in a rebuilt transmission, and noticed a screw/bolt hole toward the rear of the transmission. It is a 53' with a 235 engine and 3spd transmission, the little one. Before now, I had put the 80W oil in the side hole, using a tube and a funnell. But it looks easier if I use the top hole with a funnel toward the back of the transmission, if that is its purpose, then use the side hole to determine when it is full. Comments please. Thank you. I am not quite sure which exact plug you are speaking of ? Try posting a photo. The one plug I do know of is the bearing support retainer plug which is located in the rear tail shaft housing. I do not think you should be taking that one out especially to fill the transmission. Nate ?
If you're tlking about the plug on the center top of the U-joint ball , yes you can use it as a filler but it'll take a long time for the gear oil to slowly seep through the output shaft's bearing and into the tranny proper....
Transmission oil filling I looked in my manual, should have from the start. It is the "bearing support retainer plug" I have been looking at. I think I will not fill through there. Thank you. KentC
