Has anyone come up with a good way to remove the clear coating GM used on the aluminum trim on mid 60's trucks(and cars). Once a small area scales off it makes the whole piece look bad. I've tried acetone, thinners, and lighter fluid but no luck. Any suggestions?

Just wondering if you've tried oven cleaner?

Have not tried oven cleaner but will tomorrow. A fellow on another site also suggested oven cleaner and thanks to both of you. On the buffer using course rouge it was taking about 5 minutes per inch and there about 5 feet long and they get hotter than h__l.

just remember don't let the oven cleaner set too long, also you may want to try some never-dull, or 000 steel wool, just some more suggestions once you get the clear off as much as you can.
