I installed the old type horn today wich functions well. Testing the horn button function no sound whas coming . I made a check up with the inside parts in the steering wheel. Maybe some contact inside whas out of position or damaged ? I pulled of the horn button cap assy and did `nt found anything damaged. I found out that the 2 contacts where out of position. What i did. Removed the tighten nut and washer so i could move the contact in position wich is right above the lower contact/spring assy ? Put the washer in place and then tighten the nut again, mounted the cap and pressed. Then the trouble came as the horn constantly works and wont stop when i press. The cap function seems to work fine and even when i move the contact assy a bit it still gives me trouble. I looked up in sect. 9 sheet 1.00 in the Factory ass. manual and could `nt find any parts that are missing. Did i overlook something or mounted it the wrong way back again ? Great if someone can give me some advice , Martinius.
Been a long time but I think there is a thin concave washer with three holes (<> 12mm) and three slots. If this washer is upside down or has lost some of it's curvature the horn will honk even when button isn't pushed.
Concave washer is missing Thanks fore the fast reply Evan . The concave washer you mentioned is missing so i have to buy a new one but where to put it ? Martinius.
Hallo Martinius, I loved the pictures of the Holland Vacation! Can you send me an old 1940's dutch bike like that one you rode?. I had a problem too with my horn. Aside from my ears still ringing I spent an afternoon playing with it. I found that the repop contact board had some excess solder on it and made contact too easy. If I go 1/2 turn too much...honk. Then 1/2 turn too little and nothing! I ground off the excess solder on one contact...presto!!! it works, but only if I press the left side of the horn button. Maybe it is the same for you. Fongers bicycle Factory link. Have not found out yet what the cause could be but i wont give up. Maybe you could help me with the concave washer that is missing and send it to my home adres ? Tell me what the cost are and i `ll send you the money by post! It looks like it could be an aftermarked replacement sins the cap and the horn assy. looks very new. Pleasure is mine that you liked the pictures. Fongers is one of the oldest now excisiting factory still producing bicycles. The bicycle has a nickname called "oma fiets or halleluja fiets". There is a "fotogallerij" wich means picture gallery showing bicycles from around 1940 in the second link. Hope this is what your are looking fore? Martinius. I'll check around for it. Have not seen one lately. I brought two Krauter bicycles home from Germany. When I moved, the people who bought my house insisted I leave the "Krauters" for them. We loved those bikes. Flashlight
