My 85 ( K10 305 auto trans ) truck bogs down when I accelerate...I can back out of the gas and it seems like the further I back ou the more speed I pick up ( no really it does ) ... If I pull the thing down in 1st and shift through the gears it accelerates just fine...is it the trans or carb ???

Could be air/fuel mix, timming, timming advance. Use a timming light to see if the timing advances when you give it gas.

One other thing you may want to check, is your Cat Converter. It may be starting to get clogged up.

when the truck boggs down like that if its carberated its usually the accelerater pump. you can get a rebuild kit and a book to rebuild it. if its stock you should have a quadrajet carb. as for fuel injection u might want to have the throttle position sensor tested. Hope this helps.

might wanna check the vac line to your timing advance, could be cracked or off. My advance unit got cruddied up and stuck and did the same thing...like drabo sez, make sure your timing advances when you give 'er gas.
