Has anyone tried fabricating something resembling the original under bed spare tire carrier? I have the track and am thinking the "strap" should be fairly easy to make, once I figure out how. Harold
Harold, this is what an under bed spare tire carrier that uses a track looks like. This is from a '50 1/2 ton model. https://talk.classicparts.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=772&ppuser=5385 Ken
Is the spare tire carrier different between the 50 and the 51? I have a 51 but it looks different than what you showed.
My attachment came from the 1929-1954 Chevrolet Master Parts & Accessories Catalog with no indication of a specific year. It just looks like something I could fabricate. Thanks Ken for the picture of an actual carrier. I'm trying to figure out just how those pieces go together to secure the tire. Harold
Here is a link to some info. on the slide in carriers that were used from 1947-1950. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...0773242074&viewitem=&sspagename=STRK:MESOX:IT
bdavis, I dug this old thread up just for you! https://talk.classicparts.com/showthread.php?t=10195&highlight=spare+tire+carrier Ken
Thanks Ken. That is exactly what my spare tire carrier looks like. Now if I can get the bolts loose so I can get it powder coated.
