I took this off of the truck just after I got it for the Boop. It did not work at all but I took it apart, rebuilt it, lubed it and it seems to work great with the vacume hooked up to it from the 350 engine.

Question is: do any of you fellows recommend using it, will it work OK (any experience?) I know I can order the electric replacement but I wanted to stay original with it if possible.

BTW - I searched the threads and did not find any info... hope I looked in the right place and this is not a redundant post/question.

You ain't building no log truck boy!

I think i speak for Boop when i say "Daddy, i need intermittent, low and high speed wipers with washers too! Please, please, please!" When it rains in East Texas, it rains!

    Intermitent

Ken, from what I remember back in the day, these were very intermitent, LOL:D . I thought I remembered reading somewhere that with the proper vacume that the speed could be adjusted with the control knob and that they would work ok. Couldn't tell you if this was right or wrong.

Are we saying, Dad, since you've already spent 13.000 that 150 more want matter?

Intermitent!!!! in an old truck, you reach up there and turn em off and on :D

She needs the exercise, doesn't she?

More input please, you know even if what you hear is right, but you don't want to hear it, you keep looking for someone to be on your side :D

The only time i ever recall them being intermittent is when you were going up a steep grade and they would barely work! But if you let off of the gas, they'd slam back and forth and you could give her the gas again and hopefully not have to shift into a lower gear to get up the hill!:D Man, i miss that. I'll swap the wiper motor in my Tahoe if you'll install mine in yours and yours in mine!;)

I have an electric wiper motor in my 53 and I sure don't miss stepping on the gas and watching the wipers freeze in place LOL. The 350 will probably have enough vacuum to stop the wipers at idle!.

    vacuum wiper motor

i'll let nate dive into the specifics, since he knows exactly what he's talking about, but i believe there's a way to hook up a dual action fuel pump?? so that the vacuum for the wipers is consistant, even on steep slopes. hope that helps.

    Fuel Pump

    Thanks Ken, Federale and Jon:

I did wonder about the duel action fuel pump and also installing a large vacume canister from a camaro. I saw the duel action pumps on CP's site but didn't know if any of them would fit a 350. Since I need extra vacume for the A/C unit I thought the large canister would also help..

Thanks for the info, I'm not decided yet on which way to go... I'll wait for nates input also.

Adding my 2 cents in:p . I have a brand new rebuilt wiper motor from Jimmy Carter Trucks got it on sale to $29.00 total. Works Great until I hook on the linkage. I am using CP's aftermarket chrome wiper arms with CP blades. They work but a lot of times drag barely across the windshield glass if at all. When used in lighter rain will stop & start as they Please. I wanted to stay original so I left it in. Works Ok when rain-x is put on the glass. But then I really don't need the wipers most of the time rain-x is Great. My Vote give the nice girl I real nice electrical wiper motor. She has been waiting very nicely for her truck. You owe her + is safer:) .

I don't buy into the "I want to keep it original" theory. Point, you've gone 12 volt-not original. Point, it's got a V-Nate-not original. Point, you're gonna put shiney bling on it-not original. I could go on and on and on...POINT is, and I will agrue with anyone on this: go electric- no one's going to say "let me see the wiper motor. Oh no, not original!" Must people wouldn't know where to look for it anyway! You've got a brand new 12 volt battery in there, put it to use. Don't rely on something that didn't work when you bought it to get Boop home in April when it's raining so hard that it's like a cow peeing on a flat rock! Spend the $200 and get the works (and that includes windshield washer components). That's my 3 cents (adjusted for inflation:D )

That's a double dose of Ken's opinion. I would switch to electric myself but am still 6 volt. Not going to change at this point. Anyone heard of a 6 volt wiper motor ?

Ken- That WAS good enough for two posts! I find it hard to argue against safety! Adding all that stuff- you're still at the mercy of a hose. One pops off because the neighborhood cat wanted to spend the night somewhere warm and then your daughter goes out and gets caught in a storm... at night... with headlights shining in at her...

Brakes, tires, belts, lights, wipers- All of these can cause HUGE problems if overlooked or installed the wrong way. You could end up regretting things. I don't think you'll have to waste an ounce of worry with electric. If it was just you, it wouldn't matter. That's your call. But your daughter is going to drive this as well and she'll put her trust in you that she won't have to experience what alot of us on this page have. Even experienced drivers can end up pullin' their shorts out of places they don't usually cover.

Help us all rest easy and say you've gone electric. Even if you don't mean it.

    cave in

I guess y'all are sayin that nate's opinion don't matter :D so i'll cave in and go electric, yeh, I really mean it. Y'all almost made me cry thinkin how unsafe the Boop would be and it would be all my fault

So i'll break into the wife's grocery money, tell her she can't buy milk, the vacume will have to wait, i'm sorry the light got cut off, BUT, the Boops gota have electric swishers :D

    Now don't ya'll feel bad :D

    Tell me which looks best?

Ok, here are a few options for a perfectly good working, rebuilt, fully functional, good as new, original swisher motor. Tell me please, since I can't put it in the Boops truck, where does it fit best. See pic choices below. ;)

    6 volt wiper motor

Steve, LMC had a motor that works with 6 or 12 volt systems for 139.00. It is on page 59 of the 47-54 parts cat. http://www.lmctruck.com part #36-4065

Hate to mention other companies but this is a good price and will work with your electrical system.

Hey Steve- in your case, they do make a fuel pump that can run the vac for these old motors. If I was staying 6 volt, that's how I'd do it. Unless they make a killer 6 volt sterio, I gotta switch to 12 volt. I want to be able to thump down the road like Nate!

I think you will be happier in the long run. BTW, even though hanging on the spanner wrench hook looks good, (blends in but will still catch the eye of the discerning observer), my favorite is next to the OJ in the fridge.
I am sure someone will buy it if you want to post it.

Boopster, Thanks for the heads up on LMC. Maybe we can get a discount if we buy 2. Glad to see the poor girl is going to get the safer one will be best in the long run. I vote for the orange juice/motor storage area. Will make the wife unhappy but ha that happens some times. Thanks for the post has been a fun one.
