I would like to know what valve cover is correct for a 235 1955 and up engine It seems that there are a few different ones some have four cuts or slits about half inch long in the top with chevrolet stammped in the metel some dont have the slits just stammped chevrolet. Some arent stammped and some have the oil filler cap in the middle some in the front . Can i use the one with the 4 cuts\slits on my 1955 and up 235.The one on my truck now doesnt have the cuts or slits.I guess there for breathing. Can any body shed some light on this. thank you for your help.
Others will chime in, but you are correct. There are several different types. The breather "slits" will make a mess of your engine unless constantly wiped down. Truck valve covers have the oil fill in the front. Mine has "Chevrolet" stamped in it. Passenger car valve covers have the oil filll in the middle IIRC and probably don't have room for the stamped "Chevrolet" but I may be wrong on that point. Andy
leaks So the slits must have been a bad idea for chevrolet if they leave oil all over the engine. Or mabee it was made for the 216 lower pressure engine any way im not sure. Thanks for responding.
Valve covers 55-59 2ND SERIES (3836614) valve covers w/o slots use a vented oil filler cap. 54-62 replacement covers (3758661) did not have vent slots. Use a solid cap on vented covers. Be careful on center oil filler covers, that the oil filler cap does not hit on the valve train center connector. Hope this helps GENE
vented oil filler cap nessary or not Shankamoto nice truck nice color my valve cover is not vented oil filler is in the front and my oil filler cap isnt vented and hasnt been for a year will this hurt the engine. thanks
Vented oil filler cap Won't hurt engine but can build up pressure and make valve cover gasket leak oil. Mine is set up like yours. Gene.
