Vin help

    I have a 1955 chevy 3100 vin-H255K037187. I need help decoding it with more info on what the truck came with originally.

    Unlike modern VIN numbers, serial numbers on your truck do not offer much information on "what the truck came with".

    H255K037187 decodes like this:

    H is 3100 series
    255 is "second series 1955" First series 1955 trucks look like 1954 trucks. Second series look like 1956.
    K is "built in the Kansas City, Mo plant.
    037187 is a sequential serial number. They started with 001001.

    If the serial number had a V before the H the truck would have been equipped with a 265 inch V8, but lacking the V it had a 235 inch straight 6.
