using the vin #,( or if there is another way of finding this info), from my 1972 (C10?) truck, where can I find out how it came stock, color, engine, interior, etc. It has been customized and I would like to find out as much as possible about the stock specifics. I would also like any suggestions about crate engines in the 350hp range, I plan to use an automatic transmission and 4/11 gears.

You can try checking www.americanclassic.com They have a good VIN Decoder, however, I don't believe the VIN will give you all those details.
If you still have the original glove box door. Just open and look on the inside of the decal sheets. Gives allot of extra information.
