I thought I'd post a few pics of my weekend with the truck. I had a great time hanging out with dad while working on the truck. When mom took the picture of dad sitting in my truck he told me not to post that pic, so me being me I thought I'd put it on here, he'll really appreciate it. We got a quite a bit accomplished for only having 2 1/2 days to work on it. We cut out and put in new front left kick panal, outer front skin, door jamb openings, left rear lower cab corner, dad made a new rocker panal for the left, and we made and installed the bracing for the floor. Also I don't know what went on the front top left hand side of the cab but there were three pretty decent size holes from the factory. (You can see where I welded them up in the second picture) Maybe it was a mirror, but now they are welded in smooth. I'm getting pretty excited that the cab is starting to look like a truck again. Next we'll be cutting out the firewall and making a smooth recessed fire wall for it as well as installing the floor. I just ran out of time or it would have been done this weekend. I don't know when the next time I'll get to work on it, probably a few months  , but I can't wait until then. Any way if you guys see anything in the pics you think I should do differently, please let me know, I'm always up for new ideas.

Ahhhhhh. It looks beautiful!!! You are doing an outstanding job. This is the kind of job I would LOVE to be doing on my truck with my kids, but it will have to wait for that much detail and attention. This project is being done to teach them the basics and to just get it running and driving. Unfortunately, anything as detailed as what you are doing would seriously test their attention spans and they would quickly lose interest. So, for the time being I will put together this work truck with my kids and dream of the the time when they are older and decide too rebuild it again with the attention to detail that you are doing. Well done. Keep up the good work. My kids are still so young that Halloween gets in the way of working on their truck. But soon they themselves will be dreaming of V8 swaps and suspension upgrades. Until then, we build a work truck and have fun learning and loving together. How cool is it that you are working on this truck with your dad!!! I hope my kids ask me to help when I am older. You da man!!

Hey Kevin, looking good man! I'm wondering if someone might have put a spotlight on the driver's side where that hole is. Definitely signs of progress. Did you remember to take pics of your dad's 40?

I told dad that I needed to take some pics of it, but when I got home it was totally disassembled. He has been working on it again. The way it looks now it would be hard to tell anything about it. When he gets it put back together he is supposed to take some pics for me and send them to me. Sorry. You may be right about the spot light. Was that a factory thing or just something pretty common? I have another 50 cab and it has the same holes in it. Oh well, they're not there anymore:D .

They were a very popular accessory in the 50's and I've seen them mounted on the windshield pillar, cowl, driver's side and passenger side.

Wow ~ looking very good there ! . I'm simply green with envy at your body working skills ! :D

My 'puter is very low res. pic (I guess) as I cannot see the three holes you're referring to ? .

Spot lights were both factory and dealer installed , usually in one of three locations : lower A-pillar is most common

Upper A-pillar was for special use where they'd be looking up and to the side , like looking for house numbers etc.

Occasionally in the roof , dead in the center line but forward of the crown point , this was Military and 'phone company in outlying areas or in line service trucks...

Hey Nate the holes were in the cowl on the left. I'm assuming it was the spot light. I'm pretty sure mine was just an old farm truck. They look to be factory installed because they were pretty clean holes and also had a bracket installed underneath the dash at the same point probably to brace the spot light.

Do you kiss your wife / mother with that mouth ? :D

    Just funnin' ya .

I wonder if you maybe just filled in the factory provided mirror mounting holes...? they have a sub bracket underneath to give support and prevent cowl cracks..... OOPS

that's what I thought,,,, mirror holes,,, but i was afraid to say anything. Not only did mine have holes on the drivers side, but I put two more just like em on the passengers side... oops, hope they weren't for a light, i don't want one of them on the Boops truck, have to have em on the patrol car, don't have a choice.
BTW below is my car, just hate to mention it's a F.....
pretty cool anyway, this was at a car show, won 1st place, compliments of meth users in this county, might as well put it to good use.;)

Yes , there are holes on both sides of the cowl , look up acessory AD mirrors as they're pretty and well designed , you look in the passenger side one through the windshiled as is correct , no passenger blocking your view as you're wrestling 5 tons of hay down a bumpy dirt road on 1/2 flat Bias-Ply tires ~ no , I've never did that in New Hampshire  well , maybe once or twice .

    Tweakers ? they gave you a Ford ? huh ? .

Feel free to shoot , run over or otherwise dispose of any tweakers you find , they're a menace to society .

I know a Meth lab in the desert that's surrounded by old trucks including at least one AD DeLuxe ~ when I stopped in to look at it , I was stupidly wearing my City shirt with the seal on it ~ I think they wanted to kill me on the spot but I had several buddies along so we were able to ascape that situation

All I can say is, "Thank you KBI!" Our neighborhood is quiet once again, and they got a two-tone green caddy for their hard work! (It has a nice sound system in it, also!) ahhh, "free choice". I wonder what some people think that selling/doing drugs is a good idea?

Drug dealing is easy , high return work ~ no wonder it's so popular .

Sure there's no real future in it as you'll likely get robbed , shot , beaten or all the above but the ca$h, while it's rolling in , is very impressive .

The guy across from me is a dealer and he's protected my the Pasadena Police Dept'. Goddamnit .

I mean no harm about the farm truck comment. I'll definately wash my mouth out before kissing my wife. I know those trucks are definately alot stronger than today's truck. And my truck when finished will probably get treated better than my wife, (hope she don't read that, just kiddin hunny):p . As far as the holes, I'm not worried about the mirror holes because this truck will be completely shaved. No mirrors, door handles, emblems, glass trim, nothing. I know that comment makes some of you guys cringe, but that's just my preference.:) Plus I'll already know what's behind me without looking in the mirror, because it'll be everything I just blown by.:D

    No Driver's Side Mirror ?

Um , you won't be ever driving it on public roads then ? .

No outside rear view mirror is a _Federal_ requirement ~ roundabouts here the Gendarmes go kinda crazy when they catch you sans mirrors....

BTW : Farm Truck , shmarm truck ~ I was just funnin' ya ~ you paid for it so do with it as you please .

I take people funning me pretty well, so don't ever worry about hurting my feelings nor do I ever mean to hurt any one elses feelings, so don't take me too serious:D . I have been told by local driver's enforcement as long as I have one rear view mirror then I am okay. So my plan is to put one on the inside, they said that would be sufficient. I'm not even putting wipers on mine. They also said that would be okay as long as I register as a show truck. I just can't tell them how much I plan on driving it!:)

I have had a few people ask me about interior pics on the black truck I have n my avatar. I don't have pics of it but I do of another truck that was at the show so I thought I'd post them on here. Enjoy the pics of this beautiful truck.

Okay guys I told you I was going in to work on the truck this weekend. Well I got the dreaded stripping of the S-10 out of the way. This is a truck that my father in law gave me. The wheel base was a lot closer than the other frame I was going to use. Here is the stripping process. It really didn't take that long for Dad and I to strip it to bare frame (about 6 hours) It's now going to the blasters this week and hopefully to my house by the weekend. Notice the swing set (it's a little bowed) This is the same swing set that I've used since a kid to lift off of everything. They just don't make swing sets like they used to ya know.:p

    Good job,Kevin!

Another S-10 bites the dust!:p That's my idea of a fun weekend. Get greasy, bust a knuckle or two and bond with family. I hope Andy doesn't see that engine, he's liable to crank up the BBQ pit!:D

You could prolly save that A - Frame , er swing set ~ just flip the header bar 180° and weld some angle iron on it full length.... :D

You're right , to-day's swing set prolly wouldn't support two of the usual 130# 10 years olds that are the norm these days....
