Great Job!!! Isn't it great to see these old crusty cabs come back to life like that???? It's a great feeling to know "you did it", right?
Good job there! Question for you. Now that you've got the metal stripped down and shiney, what are you doing to keep it from flash rusting? Bare metal exposed to the elements is going to rust, especially in high humidity environments. If you haven't done so already, slap some metal prep on the bare metal. I've had good luck with Jasco metal prep. Easy to apply, stops rust in its tracks on bare metal, it can be primed and painted over. Keep up the good work and keep the pictures coming in!
Eastwood I have found if you use Eastwood products as directed they work well. My shop looks like an Eastwood commercial. Gene
Wiper Arm Removal O.K. , look at your picture , notice that the spring in the arm forces the mounting part to tip a little bit ? . hold it level and give a decent tug , it'll slide right off . There's a fat , splined drum that the wiper arms fit onto , if you cannot pull the arms off , place a large flat bladed screwdriver under the edge and gently pry the outer lip and it _will_ come off , I've never had one stay put yet . Note : if you have decent paint , place a chip of wood on the cowl so the screwdriver doesn't chip it all up . When you go to re-install the wiper arms , first make sure they're in the park position or you'll be sorry......
Good Point! Man, aint THAT the truth! When I was in Florida, a buddy of mine was taking leave to go home and be with his family. I figured I'd ride along because he had a sister... We were going through LA (Lower Alabama) when we ran into a rain storm. His wipers quit. We had to replace the control arm to one of the wipers. To do this, we had to remove the wiper arms and the outer shell between the windshield and the hood. Put the control arm back on, put the shell back on, put the wiper arms back on. This was all done in the parking lot of some road-side diner. We used the lights from inside the diner to see what we were doing, because it was L-A-T-E in the evening. We finally shut the hood, and my buddy, Jeff, gets back into the car to give it a try. I'll never forget that moment. With all the patrons inside watching, and a smug, slanted smile on his face, Jeff turned the key, looked out the windshield, hit the wiper knob... The look on his face as those wipers slapped down and out across his hood was PRICELESS!!! Fixing that problem was no problem, but the laughter that came through the diner's windows still rings in my ears!
Busted Wipers Yeah ; I know all about that ~ one time in Guatemala City they gave me a ' helper ' : (more like dufus) , he got a rebuilt wiper motor for a Toyletta HiLux van (not sold in America) and jumped in to install it before I could " waste his time " looking the job over , turns out they'd re-painted the van a month before and guess what idiot had carelessly slapped the wiper arms back on with out ' wasting time ' checking if they were parked ? he not only burned out the perfectly good electric motor but also gouged the crap out of the new paint... I wasn't supposed to beat the sh*t out of the regular shop employees but they pulled this typ of stunt daily then always tried to blame ME
If you didn't find the humor in them, it would cause you to go blind! I, for one , am guilty of slapping a new wiper blade on a car and/or truck, only to realize too late that I was a candidate for that year's "Darwin Award". Harvey's Garage and his dumb sh*t grandson always made it right, though! After all, back then, that was the right thing to do! You screw it up, you fix it! Am I wrong?
