    Ok, i may not have thought this out far enough, but i did some searches and didn't find what i was looking for. If i have the truck converted to 12v, is it hard to find a battery that will still fit in the original compartment/battery box in the floor? If others have done this, what battery did you go with? I am looking for something easily found on the shelf at most local parts stores/chains. Thanks!

    Hey there Gypsy,

    I took the measurements of the battery tray, then went to O'Reilly's with them. I was a little disappointed cause its small and I couldn't get a lot of CCA's. Maybe that's good since I left my 6 volt starter in.

    I get nervous when I flood it and wonder how long I can crank without wearing it down.

    I will have to go look later today and see what battery I used. But I too just measured the battery tray, and then went to walmart and got the biggest battery that would fit. I have had really good luck with walmart battery's. And they seem to have good numbers on them, especially for the cost.

    I have switch all over to 12 Volt, starter included.

    I will get back to ya on the number

    12 Volt Battery

    IIRC ;

    It's a BCI group 26 . not a big one but it's always had no troubles cranking it up when cold , doing routine compression tests and so on .

    You'd be wise to retain the original 6 volt starter , no need to rebuild it unless / untill it's dead , then just clean , lube and re-paint it @ home and it'll be good to go for another 50 years .
